(Start at 1:44) This performance is interesting because the lighting isn't used as a background to highlight the person, rather, the person is covered head to toe in the light source. I think the contrast between the red and blue help the audience to distinguish some of the movements of the two individual dancers and their meanings.

I think these performances are different from the first one because a lot of these do not highlight the entire body, but will highlight the main focus and movement of what the performers want the audience to see. At times, the illuminated parts of them do not even look like people, however, almost all of these performances are put on by illuminating parts of the people in the video.

  1. For the second video, I really do like how some subjects had certain body parts shown. The main part that interested me was 0:50-0:57. Since they only have lights on their hands, feet and hats, it honestly made me stop and think how the person on the right was able to grow so tall (then I was like, "Oh duh, there ought to be a 3rd dancer"). That moment exemplifies the overall use of illusion in the video.

  2. I really liked the second video! I love the fact that, instead of lighting the entire body, the focus was selective to only the parts of the body that were moving, making the entire performance more whimsical and dynamic. I really enjoyed the moment toward the beginning with the hands and hats; it was really fun to watch!

  3. The first video is so cool! I like how the dancers themselves are the light sources. They are controlling what looks like birds, and helping move the story along between the blue and the red figure. The second video also does a really good job of using lights in order to create different illusions. In both of these videos, they are using light to help create their art rather than using it just to emphasize their movements.

  4. In the first video it is interesting how the people are the light. It is really crazy to see the blue person appear to teleport. In the second video it is weird to see the green person appear to be floating. I think it is so amazing how lights can be used to show the audience different objects and people as if they are there. It really is interesting!
