(QUICK NOTE: I thought I hit publish but turns out I hit preview without saving and it deleted everything and I just now noticed?? Sorry!!)
This video features a guy wearing some really cool LED gloves. There appear to be colored LED lights in the fingertips of the gloves, and they appear to be quite bright. The man wearing the gloves also seems to have incredibly nimble fingers, as they move with such a fluid and mystical manner. The light from the gloves seems to move and create shapes with how fast the movements of the man's fingers. The streaks and fuzziness of the light highlight the movements perfectly.
In this video, video projection is used to accentuate the movements of the dancers. Swirls, shapes, waves, twinkles, and more are projected behind the two on stage, and are the only thing breaking up the monotony of the blue wash on stage. It looks like the dancers themselves are drawing and creating the shapes around them, and it shows just how fluidly they move.
I really like the second video. The way the dancers are choreographed in sync with the lighting is really amazing. This gives the illusion that the dancers are actually controlling the lights with their movements.
ReplyDeleteThe first video is very interesting to watch. The illusion part of the moving light is definitely there, since the shapes seem to stay around and the speed he moves his hands at is almost unreal.
ReplyDeleteThis shows the precision required in the dancers' choreography. I loved the blue wash as opposed to just having a black background to represent space because that would have made it difficult to see the dancers do their thing. I thought it was interesting that you can see the blue change towards the top of the background whenever stars and bright lights move up there. I'm not sure if this was intentional or if it was a result of the behavior of the star lights.
ReplyDeleteThe second video is super intensely synchronized!!! Holy cow, the light just follows their movements (but obviously it was practiced to look like that) but it adds so much depth to their performance, with out the light it would be rather odd. The first video is also really cool, I find it interesting when he makes a fist and his fingers shine light onto his face, also when he swipes his fingers around really fast it makes the light look like a line rather than a collection of dots which is also very intriguing.
ReplyDeleteThe second video really shows how crazy a well synchronized and well choreographed show can look. The only thing that I'm interested in is how the show looks if you aren't in the location of where the camera currently is, as it seems like a few of the effects really are emphasized for a 2D projection (that is you want to be in front of the performers in the direct spot where the camera is to get the proper look). The first video has a lot of cool moments, but I kinda wish there were a better way for him to hide the lights than just try and hide them behind the thicker parts of his hands, as there is still a bit of residual lighting coming from the finger tips. Of course, that would require a whole other amount of timing.
