Directional Lighting

This image is of a Birds of Paradise flower. The light is shining from the upper right corner. Because of the light, there is a shadow of the flower on the big leaves in background. I like the way the light makes the golden leaves look a little translucent. I also think the light makes the flower brighter which draws the viewer's eye to it.

This is an image of a person standing in the Redwood Forest. The light from the sun is coming from the upper right of the image. There can be rays of light visible from the light source which kind of distorts the plants behind them. The light can also be the reason for the lighter color at the top of the person's hood. There is also a shadow underneath the tree that is slanted downward in front of the person.

  1. For the first photo, I also enjoy how the sunlight makes a shadow. Since the light is much brighter than the rest of the photo, it gives me the impression that the photographer is in a garden. With the second picture, I really like the sunlight coming from the right. However, I'm not sure if they are sun rays or if it's just the light reflecting off of the camera.

  2. The light source for the first photo seems to be coming from above and to the right of the flower. It seems like a pretty large light source because it highlights not only the flower but also the large leaves and their undersides. The large amount of light almost washes out the vibrant colors.

  3. The first photo has a lot of depth and color that it gives the objects life just by having light shine on it. Some leaves are closer than others, so the shadow from one plant is cast on another, which is casting its own shadow. The plant on the side has different color from the rest which makes them really stand out.
