Interesting/Bad Lighting in theater scenario

This lighting is interesting because even though it doesn't illuminate the main character it creates a really cool effect of ominous.

This lighting is really cool because it seems to exchange the option of lighting everybody for creating a feeling of almost desolation and emptiness. Good trade off.

  1. I really like the first pictures lighting. Sometimes when you have a light shining toward the audience it can blind them and set up a somewhat harsh lighting. However, the light used in the first photo only adds more depth to the scene.

  2. The yellow backlight in the first image reminds me of a laser show, not a play. It creates a heavenly glow, but doesn't actually make any of the characters visible to the audience. The second image has a really interesting use of shadow, I love the distorted silhouette of the boy on the right. The scene does gain a lot of dimensionality just by incorporating it.
