Directional Lighting

In his photo you can tell the light is coming from directly behind the cat. The front of the cat is almost completely blacked out that forms a silhouette of a cat. I also really like the texture of the cat's hair can be seen very clearly with the light. Another interesting aspect of this photo is that both the background and the cat are almost completely blacked out and the outline of the cat is being illuminated by the light.
I like this photo because the light coming from the window shines directly onto the soldier like a spotlight. Also there are distinct rays of light being portrayed by the sunshine which I think adds another layer of detail to the photo.

  1. I really like the first photo for some of the reasons you already mentioned. Especially the fact that the light is only around the edge of the cat's silhouette. You also see some color reflected off the surface the cat is on, onto it's stomach. The choice to back light on that photo made it extremely intriguing.

  2. I really like the second picture because we get a real contrast of just general lighting (the bar light in the bottom left) and the directional lighting through the window. It really shows how they play differently off of the main objects.

  3. The first picture is extremely cool because we know there is directional lighting because the edges of the cat are lit up but we still cant see the light. Interesting how the light plays on the edges of the cat.

  5. The first picture really caught my attention because of the way the lighting outlines the cat and shows every single one of the cat's hairs. I like how the cat is completely in the dark, but you can still tell that the cat is white because of its outline.

  6. The first photo is really well shot. I like the way that the lighting is both able to cause a silhouette, while still being mostly obscured by the kitten itself. This photo creates a very unique effect that isn't really seen all too often (probably due to how little is actually being seen in this photo).

  7. By back lighting the kitten in the first photograph, it's entire shape becomes emphasized to the audience, down to the very last hair. It almost gives it a sense of strength, despite it's very small size. The lighting in the second photo is especially interesting, creating a nice use of asymmetry within the image. It illuminates the soldier on the stairs who is advancing upwards, drawing the eye over to him initially.
