Directional Lighting

It is very interesting to me that the focal point is back-lit, though the person is facing the light source. It brings a feeling of waiting or mystery to have the woman looking out of the window, without a clear view of her face.

In this image, the light source is out of the frame, but coming from the right side. It makes the photo extremely intriguing because of the shadow it creates. This directional lighting also allows the colorful slinky to stand out, as the light makes it the main focus and does not illuminate anything else in the frame.

  1. What I like about the second picture is the reflection of the colors on the table it gives it a really pretty vibe and appears like there is a color source of light. It increases the focus of the photo to the shadow because of the color.

  2. The second picture is definitely the coolest one out of all the ones I've looked at. Its colors show the power of direction lighting and how its power can be unique depending on the object.

  3. I love how even though the light coming in from the window is so bright, you can still see the details on the curtain. The light creates a nice silhouette on the woman, and I like that everything else in the photo is left in the dark. Overall, it looks like it creates a sense of longing.

  4. I really like your second picture of the slinky. The lighting is used to create both patterns and a shade of blue that really make the photo pop out. I also like how simple the photo is.

  5. I like the second photo a lot because the light really highlights the brightness and color of the slinky. Meanwhile, it creates an interesting pattern in the shadow as a result of the angle of the light.

  6. The first photo does a good job at contrasting the woman and her surroundings by being taken in black and white. The part I like the most of the photo is how the curtains and the dress fade to black towards the ends, due to the lack of light. Makes you wonder where things really start and stop.

  7. I like the first photo very much because of the way the lighting allows the viewer to see so much, yet it only is illuminating a very sparse area. If you look at the top half of the woman, you are able to distinguish a good amount of her, yet this drastically changes once you get to the bottom half of her. The second photo does a good job of displaying shadows. For one, the shadow in this photo is immensely more interesting than most other shadows, just by nature of how open the object really is. The slinky does not block much light, and as such gives off a very interesting projection onto the ground behind.
