Lighting in Nature

This is a picture from Rice University's campus. I like it because you cannot see a source of light but the picture isn't dark. There is still light even though you can't really see where it is coming from.
This is a photo from Trinity University's campus with bright light coming from the right but reflected by the clouds on the left. Even though the light seems like it is coming from the right everything is completely light in the photo, with no visible shadows.

  1. I agree with what you said about the first photo. Its intriguing how the source of light isn't apparent, it seems like an overcast day, but the picture is very bright. I also think the color is worth mentioning; the subtle light brings out the green quite a bit and makes for a high contrast photo.

  2. In the second photo, I like how you can see the reflection of the light within the fountain. The light reflects on the right side of the fountain, and then the left half is left almost in a shadow. The clouds near the right side are also much brighter than on the left. While the contrast is subtle, it still makes for good light.

  3. I like the contrast depicted in the fountain in the second photo. The lighting of the picture in the right side juxtaposed to the left, darker, side of the photo almost seems to illustrate the temperature outside based on the brightness/cloudiness in the picture.

  4. The lighting is interesting in these photos because they show that although the sun burns bright and intensely, it can also create a gloomy feel when projected through the lens of a cloud.
