This is a picture from Kinky Boots where there is a big dramatic slow motion fight scene. You can tell there is tension in the air because of the harsh white light and the stark contrast to the orange/yellow light in the set.

This photo is from The Phantom of the Opera when the phantom leads Christine to his lair. It is clearly very spooky and mysterious and the phantom is in darker light because he is seen as bad where Christine is seen as good.

  1. I really like your second photo from the Phantom of the Opera. The use of color is used very well here to convey a very spooky, eerie mood. Using dark blueish colors along with the shadows caste by the stairs help reinforce the spooky feels. I also like the addition of the fog which adds more shadows to the scene.

  2. I also really like the second photo. The blue lighting shows how the phantom is trying to stay hidden almost or be sneaky while the female is being lit by a warmer spotlight. The phantom is still a mystery to the audience, so that is why we can't see him as clearly as the female. The light also makes it seem as if she is being drawn into him and his blue light since there is more blue than the yellow light.
In the top photo, I also really like the contrast between the white and orange lights. The white light creates harsh shadows that make the scene look more intense.

  3. I love the way the light bounces around in that second photograph. Not only is there a distinct difference between the colors highlighting Christine and the Phantom, the shadows cast off of the staircase spiral in a confusing pattern, and smoke is swirling around the set. This shows just how confused and freaked out Christine is in the moment!

  4. The white lighting in the first picture compliments the white boxing ring, highlighting the intensity of the action. It really narrows in on the fight, which creates a tense atmosphere. The Phantom picture has such a sense of movement to it! The way the "stairs" spiral around the actors, in shadow, there's an overwhelming sense of disorientation.

  5. The second photo is a great example of projecting mood in the theater, with the blue colors creating a surreal sadness in the scene that embodies the tension within the play.
