Focus

This picture is interesting because the focus comes not only from a light directly above them on stage, but also from the actors lifting the actor above their heads.
This picture is interesting because the whole play is lit up but the focus is accomplished by bringing in a light from off stage towards the front shining on the  actor.

  1. Tbh, I didn't notice the light coming from the floor until I read your caption (lol). The blue wash creates a mournful mood in my opinion, so I'm assuming they're giving the body to the religious character(s) they believe in. With that assumption, the light on the floor and the one above the actors adds a sort of spiritual effect.

  2. Shrek is one of my favorite musicals, I love your second image! You're right, it's a very interesting way to focus with lights, but I'm not very bothered by how visible the ensemble in the background is. I think it's impressive that they were able to create that depth with the lights, placing the Duloc dancers in a dimmer light than Farquad. The first image is very compelling too, I think the uplight from the floor gives a very eerie feeling to the design.

  3. In the first photo, I thought it was so cool how the light not only comes from above, but also underneath the actors. I feel like it makes the actors appear more powerful. In the second photo, I think the light is interesting because it must have been hard to do with the whole stage lit.
