Dancing

This picture is interesting in that it is visible that the lights are coming down in the same direction. There are also gobo patterns seen onstage. What I admire the most is the fact that the light really compliments the outfits by having a cool yet pale color.

The show seen in this picture looks like it can be created using the Stieren using cyc lights and down lights and other relevant lights. The person in the center is not properly lit, and it is hard to know if it is because she is standing in the wrong spot or if the designer did not focus the light properly. I also admire that the light on the dancers isn't super fancy, yet the bright red on the cyc adds to the mood without messing with the costumes.

  1. I hate the second picture, it looks like the laziest lighting job of all time. I cant even see the middle person and the lighting of the other characters is pitiful as well. The red would be a great contrast against the dancers if the lighting director could figure out how to light it.

  2. I like that the first group photo focuses on the costumes in addition to the dancing. And the gobo pattern makes it look even more lively.
In regards to the second photo, besides the middle dancer not being lit, I wish all of the dancers' bodies were fully lit instead of just their top half. With it being a chair dance, it wouldn't be a good idea to use just the cyc lights and focus on their silhouettes. Unless there was some choreography for certain dancers, it doesn't make much sense to use the spotlights either.

  3. I like the use of lighting in your first photo. The way the shadows interact with the lights and the gobos create a interesting layer of texture to the photo. I also think the gobos are a good choice because they compliment the dresses very well.

  4. I really like the look of the gobo lights from the first photo. The way that the gobo causes the light to look is just an interesting one and it creates a unique look for their dance. I think that if it were just spotlights then the mood and overall look of the show would be diminished.
The second photo as others have said isn't all to great. I feel like the lack of light for the middle dancer, as well as everyone just being kinda lazily lit just does not look great.

  5. I love the first design! The streaks of light seem to be made with a spiral shaped gobo, but the beams emulate the accordion folds in the costumes. Together, those textures give the design a strong sense of movement, working perfectly for a dance piece. The second design uses color to set the tone of the dance, which appears to be sassy and fun.
