Dance Lighting

It is really nice that they used side lighting for this dance. It makes the dancers seem very long and elegant, as well as creating interesting shadows. The color is also really beautiful in contrast to the bare stage they are performing on. It gives me the mental image of dancing like the flame of a candle.

The use of gobos makes this very mystical and texturally interesting. This dance seems to also use some side light as we can see from the girl in the far right corner. The use of cool colors make it appear as if they may be underwater.

  1. The second one is a great picture! The dancer in the center looks as if she is holding up a bubble of light. The color choice of the lighting is also cool, it creates an ambient otherworldly vibe that clashes with the calmness of the dancers.

  2. In both photos, I like how side lighting is greatly used. The top photo has a mix of warm and cool tone side lights so it gives the dancers different shadows and dimensions, no matter which way they move. In the second photo, I like how the dancers are all facing in the direction of the green light, while being lit by the blue light. It creates some sort of the story through the lights and the dancing.

  3. The side lighting in both of these photos is incredible! It elongates the dancers, making them appear more elegant and highlights the curves and movements of their bodies well. The coloring of these two sets of light are also really interesting, with the top utilizing a mix of warm and cool, and the bottom using gobos over a set of blues and yellows.

  4. In the first photo, I think the use of the red color makes it really stand out. The way it is on the dancer's leg really draws the audience's attention. In the second image, I think the way the light is not focused on the women's faces is good and focuses the audience's attention on the bodies of the dancers.

  5. I love the use of side light in the first design! The orange color brings such warmth to the stage, which works well with the dancer's grey costumes. The second design has a very electric quality, outlining the dancers in a bright blue. I really like the white speckles of light on the floor, they reflects off of the girls who are on the floor.
